George Clinton began his career in the 1950s by founding The Parliaments, a doo-wop group inspired by Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers, while working as a barber in Plainfield. Following the success of “(I Wanna) Testify” in 1967, he brought his musicians together as Funkadelic before reviving Parliament a few years later.

Iconic tracks such as “One Nation Under a Groove”, “(Not Just) Knee Deep” and “Atomic Dog” have made music history and continue to influence generations of artists. Today, George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic remain essential figures in African American music and funk culture.
